Phosphonates & Polymers

Phosphonates are generally used for scale control, metals control, and peroxide stabilization. Phosphonates or phosphonic acids are organic compounds containing C–PO(OH)2 or C–PO(OR)2 groups (where R = alkyl, aryl). Most phosphonates are highly water soluble, while the phosphonic acids are only sparingly soluble. Phosphonates are not volatile and are poorly soluble in organic solvents. Phosphonates exhibit multi-functional properties such as sequestration, de-flocculation, threshold inhibition and stability to oxidizing biocides such as chlorine, bromine, and peroxides. The amalgamation of these properties enables the use of phosphonates in a wide range of applications such as the treatment of cooling and process water.

Polymers are generally chain of organic molecules. These are used extensively in water treatment process for coagulation of suspended solids in order to produce large curds of materials that are easy to separate. These chemical range have polymers for flocculation in water treatment, scale prevention in equipment that use water as a primary medium and coagulation. Polymer is low molecular weight poly-acrylic acid homo polymer. It is highly effective as dispersant and scale inhibitor in industrial water treatment. It inhibits deposition of Ca/Mg salts (carbonates, sulphates), Barium sulphate and other low solubility salts, which are responsible for depositions of scales on surfaces.
